Vintage Photo Booth Rental for Vancouver Festivals and Local Events

Most people think of a vintage photo booth rental as a wedding or corporate party add-on, and for good reason, that is most of what we do. But some of the most fun we have had this year came from setting up our enclosed, vintage-style photo booth outside those categories entirely: as a vendor activation at a 40,000 person music festival, and as part of a boutique fitness studio's first ever community event. Here is a real look at what that has looked like for us at FVDED in the Park and the Akara Pilates Fest, and what it means if you are a festival organizer, brand, or local business considering a vintage photo booth activation of your own.
FVDED in the Park: A Vintage Photo Booth at Western Canada's Largest In-City Festival
FVDED in the Park is a two-day electronic, dance, and hip-hop festival held at Holland Park in Surrey, BC, widely known as western Canada's largest in-city music festival. With roughly 40,000 attendees moving through the park across the weekend, it is a very different environment for a mobile photo booth than a wedding reception or an office party, and it is exactly the kind of high-traffic public event where a vintage enclosed photo booth needs to actually hold up.
For our activation, we set up our vintage-style enclosed photo booth inside a tented lounge area, alongside string lights, vintage-style seating, and a "Snap a Core Memory" backdrop wall. Festival-goers stepped inside the booth in small groups throughout the weekend, walked away with an instant printed photo strip, and had a spot to sit and recharge between sets. It is a good example of how a photo booth rental works differently at a festival than at a private event: instead of one group booking the booth for a few hours, it is continuous foot traffic for the length of the event, with a steady stream of new faces all day.
Akara Pilates Fest: A Vintage Photo Booth at a Local Studio's First Community Event
The Akara Pilates Fest was a different kind of booking entirely. Akara is Surrey's first mat and reformer Pilates boutique, with a studio opening in South Surrey in early 2027. Ahead of that opening, the team hosted Akara-fest, described as Surrey's first pilates and wellness festival and a preview of the community they are building around movement and wellness. The event took place in Langley, BC in August 2026.
We set up our vintage photo booth with a custom Retro Booth x Akara branded sign, and guests, many still in their workout gear from earlier sessions, stopped by between classes and vendor visits to take photos together. It is a good example of the other end of the spectrum from a festival like FVDED: a smaller, more curated local event, but one where a branded vintage photo booth moment still gave a growing local business a way to mark the day and give attendees something to take home.
What Makes a Festival or Local Event Booking Different from a Wedding
If you are weighing whether a vintage photo booth rental makes sense for a festival, market, or brand activation, a few things are worth knowing upfront.
Continuous flow, not a single group. At a wedding or corporate party, the booth usually serves one guest list over a few hours. At a festival or public event, it is open to a rotating crowd of strangers all day, so the mobile photo booth needs to keep up with steady, ongoing traffic rather than scheduled group sessions.
Space and setup still matter. Just like our private event bookings, a festival activation needs a real footprint, roughly a 10x10 foot area at minimum, and for outdoor events, some form of covered structure such as a tent, which is exactly the setup we used at FVDED.
Branding becomes part of the experience. For brand or studio activations like Akara-fest, a custom sign or overlay tied to the host's branding turns the vintage photo booth into a recognizable part of that day specifically, not just a generic photo stop.
It is still the same enclosed vintage photo booth experience. Whether it is a wedding, a corporate holiday party, or a festival tent, The Retro Booth is the same enclosed, vintage-styled cabinet that comfortably fits 5 to 6 people at once, with instant photo strip prints and a digital gallery afterward. The setting changes, the vintage photo booth experience inside it does not.
Is a Vintage Photo Booth Rental a Good Fit for Your Festival, Market, or Brand Event?
If you are organizing a festival, market, or brand activation in Metro Vancouver and weighing your options among local photo booth vendors, a few honest questions are worth asking of any vendor you are considering, including us.
Can the Booth Handle Continuous Public Traffic, Not Just a Private Guest List?
Ask how the vendor has handled high-volume public events before, not just weddings, since the demands are different.
What Is Actually Included for a Public Event Booking?
At minimum, expect full setup and teardown, an attendant on-site, and instant prints for guests, the same standard we hold for every vintage photo booth rental.
Can the Experience Be Branded to the Event or Sponsor?
If you are a brand or a business hosting your own festival-style event, ask whether custom signage or overlays tied to your branding are possible, the way we built a custom sign for Akara-fest.
What Space and Power Does the Booth Need On-Site?
Confirm the footprint and whether cover is required for an outdoor setup before the event, so there are no surprises on load-in day.
Frequently Asked Questions
Has The Retro Booth done festivals or public events before?
Yes. The Retro Booth was a vendor activation at FVDED in the Park, a two-day music festival at Holland Park in Surrey, BC that drew roughly 40,000 attendees on July 3 and 4, 2026, and it also provided a branded photo booth activation for the Akara Pilates Fest in Langley, BC in August 2026, hosted by Akara, Surrey's first mat and reformer Pilates boutique ahead of its South Surrey studio opening in early 2027.
How many people fit in The Retro Booth at once?
The enclosed, vintage-styled booth comfortably fits 5 to 6 people at once, whether it is at a wedding, a corporate party, or a festival activation.
Can the vintage photo booth be branded for a sponsor or local business?
Yes. Custom signage and overlays tied to a brand or event, like the Retro Booth x Akara sign used at Akara-fest, are available for festival, market, and brand activation bookings.
What space does the booth need for an outdoor festival or market?
Roughly a 10x10 foot footprint and, for outdoor events, a covered structure such as a tent.
Whether it is a large-scale music festival like FVDED in the Park, a community event for a growing local business like Akara, or a market, brand activation, or public event anywhere in Metro Vancouver, our vintage enclosed photo booth adapts to the scale and branding of the day while keeping the same core experience: real instant photo booth prints, a digital gallery afterward, and a mobile photo booth setup guests actually want to stop at.
